STOLER Acts Out George Lucas Blockbusters

2002 -- revised 2012

That's actually a bicycle helmet Bell made about 1987...

See the doomed Rebel Soldiers valiantly resist Imperial might!

See the naive young farmboy receive a message carried by robot from the lovely princess!

Look Mom! I'm finally Luke Skywalker with blonde hair!
Pretty good homemade blaster, don't you think?

See the swashbuckling space captain deal with a slimy alien debt collector!

See our hero and heroine escape from the Forces of Evil!

Is that a good airbrushing job on the hairdryer cord, or what?
Man, I love the cranes at the Port of Oakland...even if they aren't really the inspiration for the AT-ATs

See our hero, now a pilot, escape from the thunderous, ponderous, wondrous Imperial armored vehicles!

And here are some of the costumes created by STOLER (and Kari Holmquist) for his STAR WARS parody/fan film!!

Skinned the vinyl off an old couch... Kari actually made this, not I This, I think, was my best work...

2010 update

The costume parade at Stillman School EVERYONE wore Star Wars costumes that year

Halloween 1977: Stoler and friend John Devlin (hidden inside) build an R2-D2 out of a refrigerator box and an umbrella, but Stoler's mother won't let him dye his hair blond.

February 2009: Stoler and Beth attend Geekfest, a/k/a Wondercon, in San Francisco -- is Beth not the cutest Jedi ever? (With reusable containers instead of lightsabers.)

Eco-warriors! Sorry, John, this R2-D2 is a bit better than ours

But the character with whom STOLER really identifies, and the movie which he'd rather see...

I've had this since a poster-buying binge in 1987

...is, of course, INDIANA JONES in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

Somewhere in a distant and dangerous corner of the globe, a striking figure casts a distinctive shadow...

Between the something and the something falls the shadow
Whip it! Whip it good!

Suddenly, the striking figure strikes!

He's had the jacket since 1987, too

Yes, it's that larger-than-life scholar and adventurer, Massachusetts Stoler.
He's heading up into the mountains to visit someone...

On the bus ride to Salt Lake City
NEVER get Beth mad

Unfortunately, she's not so pleased to see him. (She's a striking figure too.)

Eventually, he finds the map room, and the ark, and all that.

At the Shattuck Cinemas, Berkeley

And he gets the girl to stop striking him and start liking him!

2010 Update

The actual flying boat used in filming "Raiders", at the Oakland Aviation Museum!
(Taken in 2007.)

OK, so the plane didn't really fly until almost ten years after the movie is set
Got this at Banana Republic, when they sold safari stuff instead of more expensive Gap clothes

"Dr. Jones, once again we see there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take from you."

2012 Update: The Theatrical Rerelease of the Original "Raiders"

(yes, we sho saw it when it first came out still call it that, not "Indiana Jones and the Raiders...", just as we call the 1977 movie "Star Wars", not "Episode IV" or "A New Hope".)

OK, so the plane didn't really fly until almost ten years after the movie is set Got this at Banana Republic, when they sold safari stuff instead of more expensive Gap clothes
